Therapies

Disc regeneration is not a simple one-step process. It requires a commitment to better spine health. Our RegenaDISC procedure is the beginning of this process and the foundation of the RegenaDISC program.

The RegenaDISC Program integrates the latest scientific evidence on spine disc regeneration from the disciplines of – regenerative medicine, stem cell therapy, minimally invasive spine surgery, laser spine surgery, exercise physiology and nutraceuticals – into a comprehensive program aimed at regenerating painful degenerating discs and repairing herniated discs.

Completion of a smoking cessation plan is critical to optimum disc health and should be completed before RegenaDISC.

Our first program is for people with degenerating discs or painful bulging discs.

Our second program is for people with herniated discs and regeneration.

Please keep in mind that all RegenaDISC procedures can be modified to treat similar painful conditions in the cervical spine (neck) and thoracic spine (upper & middle back).

RegenaDISC – for Degenerating Discs and Painful Bulging Discs

Painful discs in the lumbar spine and degenerative disc disease are common causes of low back pain.

Fortunately, most people respond to conservative treatment and the avoidance of activities that aggravate the pain.

For many other people, degenerative disc disease can be a severely disabling cause of back pain that limits activities and leads to a life of pain and misery.

The RegenaDISC Program was pioneered by Celling Treatment Centers to provide fast relief of low back pain caused by degenerating discs and a pathway to disc regeneration.

Left untreated, degenerative disc disease can result in chronic back pain and develop into spinal stenosis.

RegenaDISC Procedure for Degenerating and Painful Discs

The RegenaDISC procedure for painful or degenerative discs is the center of the RegenaDISC Program for disc regeneration.

The procedure provides stem cell tissue transplantation into a painful and/or degenerative disc of the spine – cervical, thoracic or lumbar – after laser decompression for pain relief.

This natural biologic treatment provides the cells necessary to regenerate the spine disc or slow the degenerative process using stem cell therapy.

RegenaDISC is an alternative to spine fusion for those who have failed to respond satisfactorily to more conservative treatments.

The RegenaDISC procedure is an out-patient procedure that takes about an hour. It is only performed by Celling Treatment Centers.

RegenaDISC Program for Degenerating and Painful Discs

The RegenaDISC program begins with the RegenaDISC procedure.

After the procedure, a specific therapeutic exercise regimen is prescribed as well as a supplementation program that supports disc regeneration.

This program is designed to facilitate spine disc health.

For example, one of the main goals of the program is to stimulate the production of proteoglycans. Proteoglycans play an important role in disc hydration and give the disc its spongy quality. This is very important for the disc to be able to handle various load-bearing throughout the day – one of its primary functions.

Quality sleep also plays an important role in a normal healthy disc. You should talk to your doctor about improving your sleep hygiene if you are serious about treating disc degeneration.

RegenaDISC – for Herniated Disc Repair and Regeneration

A herniated disc in the spine is a sign of injury to the disc or early degeneration. It results when tears in the outer layer of the disc, called the annulus, allows the inner part of the disc, called the nucleus, to extrude out. This can result in severe back pain and leg pain often called sciatica.

The disc annulus is made of a reinforcing structure called Type 1 Collagen.

If the disc herniation results from trauma, for example a car accident, it is often the beginning of the degenerating cascade of the disc that can lead to years of painful degeneration.

If the disc herniation is result of aging such as a simple lifting or twisting & bending event, it is usually a sign that there are already significant tears in the annulus (outer part) of the disc.

The RegenaDISC program for disc herniation is for those patients who have failed to respond to non-operative treatment such as physical therapy or chiropractic and have not responded to epidural steroid injections or seeking alternatives to epidural steroid injections.

As most disc herniations will heal nicely in 4-6 weeks, we recommend all patients without neurologic deficit try non-operative treatment for at least 6 weeks before considering the RegenaDISC procedure for disc herniation.

RegenaDISC Procedure for Herniated Disc Repair and Regeneration

This RegenaDISC procedure is an alternative to stand-alone removal of a herniated disc through standard open back surgery or minimally invasive methods such as micro discectomy or laser discectomy.

RegenaDISC is for people who want to provide their spinal disc the opportunity to heal and regenerate and not simply to remove the herniated disc and allow the disc to fill with scar tissue and continue to degenerate.

After removing the herniated disc, we use our Laser Disc Repair procedure to repair the disc annulus and provide stem cell therapy for disc healing and regeneration.

Frequently, the tear in the disc annulus is so large that it cannot be repaired with direct suturing. At Celling Treatment Centers, we use a Type 1 Collagen platform to repair the large complex hole in the disc combined with stem cell therapy so the annulus fibrosis can heal rather than leaving the large hole that can easily extrude more of the disc’s nucleus.

RegenaDISC Program for Herniated Disc Repair and Regeneration

The RegenaDISC program for herniated disc repair and regeneration includes a prescribed therapeutic exercises regimen that facilitates disc proteoglycan synthesis while protecting the disc repair. The therapeutic exercises prescribed are an integral part of the RegenaDISC program.

Quality sleep also plays an important role in a normal healthy disc. You should talk to your doctor about improving your sleep hygiene if you are serious about treating disc degeneration.
